Hey Linda! I used to have rats, four of them! Milo, Pumpkin, Albert and Alex. They were such fantastic pets. Of corsue, being boys, they weren't as clean as I would have liked, but they were satill my babies! Sadly they only live for 2 to 3 years. Alex got phnemonia and we had to put him down. Pumpkin started internal bleeding in his lugs and it would have drowned him, but we put him to sleep before he could suffer. Albert developed cancers and had to be put down, and Milo was fine until his breathing became laboured and we had to rush him to the vets, where we put him to rest as well. Be careful and maybe prepare your girls, because pet rats tend to develop all kinds of problems and you may too one day be forced to make a terrible decision.
